the SHE CARRIES ME project
My name is Lauren. I'm a Canadian theatre artist and survivor of Advanced Breast Cancer. While my word was shattered, I was given the chance for a future.
I'm putting something into the world to offer comfort, connection, tools and resources, and to help ease some of the uncertainty, fear and isolation this kind of journey can bring.
I was one of the over 31,000 Canadian women diagnosed each year. I didn’t know how to face what was being asked of me. I walked, I fell, I put on my wig and I walked again.
While I still feel haunted by all that has happened and am still finding my feet, I've come a long way. I need to make something good come out of all this. For me, for people like me, for our loved ones and maybe for you.
What has emerged is the She Carries Me project, a series of sister-projects, inspired by my experiences as an artist and survivor. It is driven by a passion to make life easier for those facing this kind of extraordinary physical and mental battle.
Over the coming months I’ll be sharing details about the initiatives I’ve been working on and the variety of ways people can experience them, get involved with them, become part of the She Carries Me project community, or just be here. I'm so excited to share them with you.
Join me as I embark on this quest to enrich the lives of others walking this path, to help transform pain into purpose, and despair into hope, empowerment, connection and release.
